  • A refreshed hero banner now highlights that you can search by genes, genomic regions, or variants, with a bold gradient callout explaining the search bar at a glance.
  • Three icon cards sit under the banner, spelling out the supported query types (genes, variants, and regions) so users know exactly how to start.
  • The search bar uses the same autocomplete experience as /search: it routes known identifiers directly to their pages, recognises genomic coordinates, and supports the same slash shortcuts.
  • Autocomplete suggestions are still grouped by entity type (genes, proteins, variants, diseases, PMIDs, pathways, ontology terms, drugs, transcripts, studies). Selecting a result stores it in local search history and navigates immediately to the relevant catalog page.
  • A quick scroll-to-top affordance briefly highlights the search box so users can start another query without scanning the page.

Data Coverage Visual

  • A slim bar-graph strip now sits beneath the hero, previewing how much IGVF coverage exists for genes, variants, and regulatory elements.
  • The colors and scale match the header strip on every gene, variant, and element page, creating a single visual cue that follows you from the home view into each detail page.
  • The bar animates in after a brief pause so the stripe never blocks the search bar while the page loads.

Flagship Datasets

  • A highlights section sits just below the search bar, presenting four flagship IGVF datasets in a responsive card grid so researchers can preview what is in the catalog before searching.
  • Each card shows the dataset name, a plain-language summary, and a link that takes you directly to those records in the catalog search results.
  • Included datasets: Saturation mutagenesis (dense variant scans), Proteome-scale predictions (protein effect scores), ENCODE-rE2G atlas (regulatory element-to-gene links), and BlueSTARR/MPRA (massively parallel reporter assays).
  • The layout adapts to desktop and mobile widths, keeping the content readable without horizontal scrolling.

  • Tips remind users that autocomplete refines as they type, cross-references related entities, and lets them jump straight into any suggestion with one click or tap.
  • Variant searches are case-insensitive, so typing Rs7412 or rs7412 lands on the same variant page.
